Discovering Printmaking at Fleisher, Jan 2016

Come learn easy ways to make prints in class and at home. You'll learn to print without a press using easy and safe printing techniques that are non-toxic and water based. I'll show you simple techniques you can continue at home on your own kitchen table. You'll learn simple printing methods that will express your artistic creativity. You'll see lots of examples of prints by well-known artists as well as previous student work We'll look at our work and learn from each other in a welcoming community environment.

Included in the workshop will be behind-the-scenes visits to some of Philadelphia's hidden treasures and special collections. We'll visit the Print Study Room at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Print and Picture Collection of the Free Library of Philadelphia.

What will you learn in this workshop?

  • take your idea from inception to a finished print
  • learn simple monoprint and relief techniques
  • handle printmaking paper, mix colors, register layers while you create prints you can share with classmates, friends and family
  • work in a communal studio with shared materials and equipment

All the paper, inks, and tools you need are included in the lab fees. Buy the supplies you want to use at home afer you learn to use them in class.
